Clayton & Son Project Shown

Renny Clayton reports, "Stan, Kevin Mitz and I were all standing around the shop one day, talking about all of the cool new bodies that were coming out, and thinking to ourselves that it would be a lot of fun to build our own. Well, one thing led to another and foam started getting slapped around, leading to the spy photos you see below from earlier this summer:"

Lee Stohr Displays 2006 Car

The first photos of Lee's all new car was released today. Lee noted, "The aero and cooling details have already been tested this year on two local Stohr DSR's. The new frame has more leg and foot room."

In replies to a comment that the car looks similar to other sports racers, Lee commented, "The shape of all single-seat sports racers are similar. If you use a overhead snorkel air intake, shrink an engine cover around the transverse bike motor, wrap the rear fenders tightly around the tires for minimum frontal area - then there isn't much left to do but set the rear deck height. That gets into the hard part. All modern LeMans cars use very low rear bodywork between the fenders. This is a tricky structural problem because the a-arms are squeezed very close together, increasing loads considerably. The low deck may give lower drag and work better with the very small rear diffusers required by todays rules. In our classes, we can run big rear diffusers or tunnels, like the old Toyota GTP and Group C Jaguars and Peugeots.
But how to fit a big tunnel under a low deck? And how will the cooling air escape? And how do you keep up the chassis torsional stiffness with practically no space for a frame and a bike motor not designed to be fully stressed ?"

Mallen Alley's Car Unveiled

Kevin Allen reports, "A little about the project. Adam Malley, 4 time HP champion and I are doing this together. We both have had enough of being punished by the CRB for going quickly. A quick scan through the rulebook led us directly to C/DSR, if we end up being fast it will be somewhat difficult to be singled out for a competition adjustment.

There are many ideas we've been tossing around for about 3 years and it's been quite a challenge to get this far with the buck. We expect to be in paint and ready to start mold building this month. The chassis is coming along, just waiting for the uprights and driveline components to arrive. R1 is on the table awaiting it's home to be built around it.

We expect to turn a wheel this year and be ready for next season. If it goes well we will be in, of all places!!!!!, Topeka next fall.
About the British flag [in the photo], if you look closely, you'll see the Honda jacket behind it. You see, Adam was born in merry old England, kinda funny that he beat up the lil' Brit roadsters so much isn't it, I guess it helps to know the enemy well. A Spit powered DSR, that is just wrong!!!!! Funny though."
