Mercury Engines
Model 40, 700cc
Ken Polman used a Highly modified 700cc Mercury 40 outboard engine in his H Modified Flying Shingle chassis. Ken's engine was converted to rotary valve, was able to turned 15,000 RPM, never blew up, and was never rebuilt.
"Here are a couple pictures of the engine and modified crank. The split valve blocks held 2 more custom needle bearing mains that the stock engine didn't have. The black pieces of the crank are the original parts," reports Ken.
The engine was coupled to a Triumph 500 transmission and chain drive to a solid rear axel.
