When I found it, I already owned the first of these ‘Nichols Specials’ (Now driven for me by JP Molerus) of France (currently running in the LA area.). We believe this is the third of the four Nichols built. It was original raced by Perry Peron (built at least in part by Stan Bucklin). After a little research I was able to contact both Jerry Fairchild and Dr. Bill Molle. After I restored the car, I was fortunate enough to be able to offer and have Dr. Molle drive the car at Laguna Secca on its maiden run after restoration. After Jerry passed away, Doc contacted me and said he had a gift for me- and that I should come visit him one day. Several months later I paid him a visit and was stunned by the sight- he presented me the original Twin Overhead Cam motor that Jerry had kept for years (Jerry had passed away about 6 months earlier). Although I still have the motor (intact) and most of the fuel injection set-up- I have never tried to run it. Throughout the history of the Fairchild it was raced with various versions of Panhard power units. Among them include the Fuel Injected units as described in the ‘Sportscar Specials’ book. It was also raced with a fuel injected twin overhead cam, one of a kind Panhard engine developed by Jerry Fairchild. This car was also run with a production supercharger as used on the Panhard Junior! Currently the car is run with a motor developed by Don Racine which is a copy of the motor as used in the Aardvark. $25,000

Chassis originally designed and built by current Andretti/Team Green Crew Chief. They built 3 Super Vees then he started making Pro Sports 2000 with the Olds Quad 4 engine. The car is a center seat full monocock - inboard front suspension that has been modified to take a Datsun 1300 2 valve with a Hewland 5 speed. NEW Torsen differential. Converted to inboard Disc in the rear - Flat bottom per rules - body work from Hi Tec Glass in Georgia. All Al work and fabrication complete per GCR. Transmision just converted to 5 speed with all new Webster gears to match the power curve - (photo available of grear plots matching engine peak torqueat 6500 to peak HP at 8500 RPM). I have 13 other ratios splitting current set-up available seperately. The engine is fresh and has no race time on the rebuild. It was rebuilt by James Knerr from Bethlehem PA after 10 initial races from new. I've fired it up and it sounds real strong. The engine is equipped with: Carrillo rods Vinolia Pistons, Tilton Clutch, New SS Valves, Roller rockers, ADP oil pump and dry sump pan - block oil gallies drilled for additional flow, Al flywheel, Crank fire MSD 6 with Rev Limiter, The head and crank are trick Nissan Racing - heads is built from what's called a GTX. - 45 mm Webers and a long tub header with a new Supertrapp muffler. It was rated at 170 HP - Rev limiter set at 8800 RPM - I do not have the dyno sheet - just build notes but I do have all the rebuild specs from Knerr. Its comes with new slicks bought last fall. 8 - 3 pc pin drive Solor Alloy wheels with additional centers and inner/outer halves - I haven't checked all of them but the first set I looked at were bent on the outer sections. Spare Nose Full set of spare Front and rear calipers. Some suspension spares - rear uprights, Spare crank, Al flywheel/Pressure/Clutch, Block, Front and rear engine covers with additional crank fire. Spare Hewland /Nissan bellhousing adaptor New - fuel cell foam, Facet Fuel Pump and Dry Cell battery, Clutch Slave this fall. Included is a set of MK-18 drawings from LeGrand. Parts included one engine, two LeGrand Formula Ford wheels, rear upright castings for left side center and right side, two half shafts and drive donuts, and two rear A arms with bushings. All of this has been stored in a garage for 16 years. The engine is a 790cc Hirth Honker Snowmobile engine with a Salisbury racing clutch assembly with several sets of weights to set the engagement RPM. The ignition system and carburetors are there, but there are no expansion chambers for the exhausts. One would be required for each cylinder for maximum performance. The engine has never been started. Also, there is documentation on the engine and clutch. The pictures show the chassis mostly assembled but the aluminum parts are only set in place with un-popped rivets. The other picture shows other parts and drive system. More parts photos will be added. Dave says, "I chose Ford wheels because back then (1974), Formula Ford had the latest tire technology compared to other sized racing tires and this was recommended by LeGrand." He built it while crewing Ted Peterson's McLaren Mk2. It is a 7/8ths scale copy. In 1969 other comittments kept him from seat time. Max Callicott drove it to wins at Holtville and Phoenix (Lapping the field.) It's body disappeared during the 30 years it has sat in garages and yards.
