Costalotta Chassis

H Modified

Some Background

In May, 1965, “In the H Modified Sports Class, Martin Tanner had a new Martin T & Fay Meerzo was completing his Costalotta MK II.”1

In September, 1966, “Fay Meerzo was selling his Costalotta race car chassis, with a Jaguar Mark IV thrown in free. The package deal was $3000.00.”2

Hugh Nutting says that “There were two Costalotta cars - The Mk I had a front engine and the Mk II was rear engined (parts from the first were re-used on the rear engined car.)

Fay was a welder - like many young builder/racers, he worked on his car(s) up to the last moment. We kidded him about building it in a week between races!

Fay still lives in Florida. His first wife was a Checkpoint [newletter] editor folowed by myself. In one of the Checkpoints it speaks of their Mini = it was an Ogle.

Fay helped Martin Tanner build the first steel frame for Martin T-4/T-5.”

This is a rendering, by Hugh Nutting, of the Jaguar Mark IV that was offered "for free" as a tow vehicle.
